N. C. Wyeth (1882-1945)
Newell Convers Wyeth was Howard Pyle’s most successful student, going on to be one of America’s most famous illustrators and the patriarch of one of the most important families in American art history. Doing large paintings, Wyeth is best known for his dramatic book illustrations, including those from such famous Scribner’s Classics as Treasure Island, The Black Arrow, Robin Hood, and Rip Van Winkle. Wyeth was in such demand that he was also called upon to do advertising work, magazine story illustrations, and even murals during his long, distinguished career.
