Albert Beck Wenzell
(1864 – 1917)
Born in Detroit, A. B. Wenzell studied in both Munich and Paris where he spent much of his youth. When he returned to the United States, Wenzell began a career that focused almost exclusively on the portrayal of America’s high society. His fashionable subjects could be found in all of the popular magazines of the day—The Ladies’ Home Journal, Century, Cosmopolitan, The Saturday Evening Post and many others. Done in either oil or gouache, Wenzell’s paintings were filled with artistic technique, and historically accurate enough that they may still be referenced today to glimpse that bygone era.
