Coles Phillips
(1880-1927) |
Coles Phillips
began his career on the student newspaper at Kenyon College in his
native Ohio. After further study at the Case Art School, he started
to get work at major magazines such as Life and The
Saturday Evening Post. Phillips became famous for the "Fadeaway
Girl"—a beautiful young woman that appeared to blend into the
background design of the painting. These poster-like designs also
brought Phillips advertising work for Holeproof Hoisery and
Community Plate silverware. |
