Walt Louderback (1889-1941)
The work of Walt Louderback is broad and direct, with few subtleties. Yet for all his sledge hammer technique, romanticism permeates his pictures. His characters and their emotions seem heroic, larger than life. For the reader, the vicarious thrill of participating in the adventure is heightened as well. Louderback was born in Valparaiso, Indiana, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He lived in Europe for some time in the 1920’s delivering his pictures by ship.
