John Held Jr.
(1889-1958) |
John Held, Jr.
trained with M. M. Young and is most famous for the stylized
pen-and-ink images he did depicting life throughout the twenties. He
covered all parts of the decade, from flappers to jazz, from
jalopies to bootleg gin. He worked in most of the humor magazines of
the period, including Judge, Liberty, College Humor,
Cosmopolitan, and NewYorker. He also did a number of covers for
the old Life, working, as he frequently did, in watercolor
and gouache. |
