Norman Rockwell
(1894-1978) |
Born in New York
City in 1894, Norman Rockwell began his art studies at the National
Academy of Design, later attending The Art Students League under
Thomas Fogarty and George Bridgeman. He went on to become the
best-known illustrator this country has ever had, primarily as a
result of the 322 different covers he created for The Saturday
Evening Post between 1916 and 1963. Besides the wonderful
vignettes of small town America that Rockwell created for the
Post over almost half a century, he also painted literally
thousands of illustrations for other magazine covers and stories,
books, advertisements, calendars, and posters. The Norman Rockwell
Museum has been established in Stockbridge, Massachusetts not far
from his studio, and a large selection of his original paintings can
be viewed there today. |
