James E. Allen
(1894-1964) |
A lifelong
student, James Allen continued his art education throughout his
career, studying at various times at the Art Academy in Chicago, the
Art Students League and the Grand Central Art School under fellow
illustrator Harvey Dunn. He began his career with the People’s
Popular Monthly in 1913 and went on to illustrate fictional stories
for almost all of the major magazines at one time or another. Allen
is known not only for his work in oil on canvas but also for the
lithographs and etchings he did throughout his career. |
